Is spring your favorite time of year? We sure love it here at Hummel’s Automotive Diagnostic & Repair. Now is a good time to give us a chance to give your automobile the once-over to make sure everything is okay. Think of it as spring cleaning for your car, truck, CUV, or SUV. Here is a list of automotive services that make sense to do in the spring.
Air Conditioner Charge
Make sure that your air conditioner is ready to keep you cool all summer long with an A/C charge now. This service allows us to check your air conditioning system, including the refrigerant, to make sure that you won’t have anything to worry about the first time you turn it on.
Battery Check
Winter weather can be hard on car batteries. The cold temperatures reduce battery power and can wear down old batteries to the point that you will end up with a dead battery in the spring. We can test your battery to make sure it’s still holding plenty of charge. If not, we can replace it.
Belts/Fluids/Hoses
Spring is also a good time to make sure Old Man Winter didn’t harden and crack your belts and hoses. It’s also a good time to check all of your automotive fluids to make sure that nothing needs to be flushed and refilled, especially coolant. We’ll talk more about an oil change below.
Filters
If you can’t remember the last time you had your filters changed, now is definitely the time to do it. You’ll find the air filter in the engine and the fuel filter somewhere between the gas tank and engine, and they need to be changed every 12,000 and 30,000 miles, respectively. If the cabin filter is dirty, it needs to be changed, too.
Oil Change
Unless you had your oil changed during the winter, it’s important to get it changed now. Even if you use synthetic oil, your car will begin to run hotter in the spring and summer because the outside temperatures are hotter. Give your engine the new oil and oil filter it needs to protect it.
Tires
Tire rotations should be done every 6,000 miles. The wheels should be balanced at the time of the tire rotation. If it’s been 6,000 miles since you’ve had your tires rotated, let us do that for you. This extends the tread wear and the life of your tires.
Wiper Blades
Finally, spring brings April showers, so make sure that your wiper blades are ready for the task. It’s important to be able to see clearly through your windshield during rainstorms. We can check your wiper blades to make sure they are in good condition.
